    HEADLINES

Race distance - 2 miles and about a furlong. All carry 11st 2lbs apart from 4 yr olds - 10st 12lbs. Penalties for having won Class 1 or 2 hurdle.

2016 - Limini capped a good day for Irish trained and short priced treble kings after Thistlecrack and Vautour. A French Bred five year old, carrying 11 st 7lb trained by Willie Mullins and steered by Ruby Walsh. 8/11 fav. Not out since strolling the G3 Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle over 2m2f at Fairyhouse 46 days ago by 11 lengths.

2017 - Lets Dance capped a great day for Ruby and Willie with another short priced treble after Yorkhill and Un De Sceaux. A nicer 4 timer if you had thrown in Nichols Canyon. No, don't be silly. A French Bred five year old, carrying 11st 7lb trained by Willie Mullins and steered by Ruby Walsh. 11/8 fav. Not out since strolling the Nathaniel Lacy G2 Novice Hurdle over 2m4f at Leopardstown 46 days ago by 6 lengths.

2018 - Laurina made it a Closutton double. A French Bred 5 yr old, carrying 11st 7lb trained by Willie Mullins and steered by Paul Townend (Ruby injured the day before). 4/7 fav. Not out since strolling the G3 Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle over 2m2f at Fairyhouse 47 days ago by 11 lengths.

Nothing wearing headgear has been placed, even those trained by Willie Mullins

2019 - Should be easy enough. Something starting with an L trained by Willie at a short price. Ran in the last week of January. Honeysuckle NR strolled it at Fairyhouse by 6l trained by Henry de Bromhead and ridden by Rachel Blackmore. No Willie finisher in the first three. Elusive Belle ex Irish bumper form, strolls it for the Waley Cohens at Wincanton. Beat since. Posh Trish all the rage on the Final Furlong Podcasts.

  • Limini , a 5yr old off 145 beat Dusky Legend, a 6 yr old, of 123 and Bloody Mary another 5yr old. The latter was the best of the Henderson three runners. The actual top rated and 6/1 second favourite Smart Talk off 149 disappointed. Limini went off 8/11 won by 4 1/2 lengths. Her best previous run was a G3 over 2m 2f at Fairyhouse at the end of January. I don't remember Ruby having a moment's worry here.

Lets Dance was a second season novice and had won four on the trot since Punchestown. Won here of 147. Beat Barra, of Gordon Elliotts rated 136, and Dusky Legend. Lets Dance best previous win was a 2m 4f G2 stroll at Leopardstown at the end of January. Don't remember Ruby having a moment's worry here. How did that go off at 11/8? Just remember Steve counting money from his treble. Deja vu?

Both unbeaten since Punchestown and French Breds owned by Mrs Ricci. Believe Laurina isn't.

Honeysuckle wins the G3 at Fairyhouse

I take no responsibility for (but am keen to hear of) any factual errors. (Bgault01@gmail.com, @gaultstats). Previous years ‘stats on stats’ would suggest we may identify a decent priced winner from manageable groups every three or four races. I tend to improve as a tipster as the week goes on, possibly too worried on the Tuesday. It is believed that Savello (2014 Grand Annual) took from Golden Chieftain (2013 3m hcap chase) the record for breaking the most stats in a race. Stands now at 8. Cole Harden equalised with 8 in the 2015 World Hurdle. Remember, after you have cursed/laughed at me and given up totally on trends, they will come back to bite. Always happens. Usually on Gold Cup Day. Oh yes, and if you're called Rory Delargy, you can't win the quiz too often.
