Mrs Paddypowers G2 Mares Chase
Year six. To be won by the Irish, but that's hardly rocket science. Now moved up to race three on Gold Cup day. In 2025 it seemed a poor enough hors d'oeuvre to the GC. Reminded me of the disinterest in the Cathcart. Maybe this year more will pay attention to it. Still a pity that Paddypower trivialise the race with the name.
Summary
(This unchanged in 2025) An Irish trained winner, won last time out after Christmas and at least in Listed Class. Aged 7 or 8 yrs. Either has won over 2m 4f or placed in this before. BHA rated at least in the high 140s. JP enjoying this now. The first five renewals won by well punted second or third favourites, 3/1 the biggest SP. W Mullins a tour de force. Grade 1 penalty carriers to be respected.

Evidence
2025 - This Festival Mark Walsh won four races . Total winning distances 29.5l. He does make winning look very routine and has been underestimated in JP's success. His next ride was the GC winner. Had the measure of stablemate Allegorie de Vassy here when she came down at the last. The better ground suited Dinoblue, second to Limerick Lace in 2024. Came from a Naas Listed Mares 2 miler. Carried 7lb G1 penalty. Three GB trained, all unplaced. 2 BFs last time 2nd and fell.
2024 - Good ride by Keith Donoghue capping a fine double for Gavin Cromwell after Inothewayurthinkin. Limerick Lace had been 2nd in a Troytown off an Irish rating of 141. so staying was her strength. Stole three lengths coming round the corner. Mark Walsh on Dinoblue couldn't get to her. She was carrying 5lb more. Mark probably had the choice of rides. JP 1-2, the rest meh. WPM a 2-4-5.
2023 - A good race. The third winner of this to arrive in tip-top form. Impervious another unbeaten novice. The JP first string took it from Allegorie De Vassy (fav) Great winner for Colm Murphy and Brian Hayes. Two BFS last time didn't feature, Willie's three finished 2nd, 5th and 7th. Pink Legend 33s placed for second consecutive year.
2022 - Mark Walsh gets Elimay up for his second winner of the week. She herself had been second to Colreevy in 2021. Not much to pick between herself Pink Legend 33s (one helluva week for Venetia) and Scarlet And Dove 28s. Concertista 2/1 fav disappointed but I'm sure Willie was happy enough with five winners on the day. Elimay carried 11-2.
2021 - Well, it was a Festival mares event after all. Willie saddled 4 of the 11 and had a 1-2 but won with Coolreevy in her penultimate ever run and not with Elimay. A game winner, Colreevy was punted all day down to 9/4 with the jolly in second started an unexpected odds against 6/5. It was close. Willie had a 1-2-4 with Shattered Love finishing a respectable third for Cullentra.
Usually small fields. Dinoblue and Colreevy as G1 winners carried a penalty and 11-7. Finished 121. In the five renewals JP has had eight runners, four winners, two seconds. WPM has run 14 in total, three winners, three seconds. 16 GB trained runners in total, resulting in a 2nd and two 3rds. Marsh Wren at 28/1 and Pink Legend (Venetia) twice at 33s.
Mares aged 9+ are 0-11, aged 6 - are 0-3, G Elliott 0-6. All bar Limerick Lace had run well in a previous Festival.
3/1 the biggest winning SP.
